Start with the site, not the shopping list
Book a beginner-friendly session and read the organiser’s briefing before buying equipment. Ask what the rental package includes, when to arrive, and whether there is a covered staging area. A rental day gives you a chance to learn what feels comfortable without building a complete setup first.
Pack for a full day outside
Bring drinking water, lunch, spare socks, and clothing you can move in. Choose footwear with grip suited to the terrain and follow the site’s requirements for eye and face protection. Keep a small bag for clean layers so the journey home is comfortable even after a wet afternoon.
Make the briefing count
Listen carefully to the site rules, boundaries, signals, and instructions from the marshals. If anything is unclear, ask before the game starts. Introduce yourself to the people nearby and let them know it is your first visit. A good day is built around communication, honest play, and looking after one another.
Leave with one useful lesson
At the end of the session, note what worked and what you would change. You might want a lighter bag, a better-fitting pair of gloves, or simply more water. Make the next visit a little easier before deciding which equipment deserves a place in your kit.
